Who are YOU to take on Michael Moore? What credibility do YOU have?

I'm just a 22-year old with access to the Internet and production equipment. All that was required was many hours of research and scriptwriting/videotaping/editing. I don't have the resources (i.e. money/major distribution channels) to promote my film like others can, but my information can be backed up.

I'd say I'm more credible than Michael Moore is. People who usually ask this question have a problem believing information that's presented in the documentary yet put full faith in what Michael Moore presents. If you don't believe me, do your own research...I highly suggest it whenever you read or view any non-fiction work.

What are your sources?

My major sources are given in the end credits. In case you missed them, they are as follows:

Truth About Bowling for Columbine - David T. Hardy
Bowling for Truth - Richard Bushnell (website is having server issues as of 11/27/2006)
Fifty-nine Deceits in Fahrenheit 9/11 - Dave Kopel
"Michael Moore is a Big Fat Stupid White Man" - David T. Hardy and Jason Clarke
War, Lies and Videotape A Viewer's Guide to Fahrenheit 9/11 - The Ethics and Public Policy Center

MooreLies.com
Michael Moore Hates America
FahrenHYPE 9/11

A line-by-line back up is planned for release before the end of 2006 to substantiate claims in the documentary.

Why didn't you do any original work?

I did. There was no documentary available which contained the large amount of analysis on Moore's movies. Because it took hours to read all of this information, I decided that I'd make the documentary. Being a middle class college student, I didn't have the money to make a major movie like Michael Moore Hates America, where interviews with different individuals would have made for a better film. The original work is the research, scriptwriting, shooting and editing of the video.

It costs a lot to make a feature length video program. Even one as simple as "6 Degrees from Truth: Michael Moore." Realizing that I would probably not be able to recoup costs to make it (if any), I decided that I would just try to cram as much critique into it as possible. Quantity of information over quality of entertainment value...because quality would have put me into major debt.

The research was already out there, backed up with sources. Many more valid than Moore's claims, some not. Why do further research when it's already been done by many others? If you look into some things on Michael Moore, that's what he does too! But he's less up front about it. See here and here for examples of what I'm talking about. Also, a lot of Barry Glassner's research (whom Moore interviewed in BFC) was used to formulate Bowling for Columbine

You're missing the point of his movies!

No, you're missing the point of my documentary. Okay, let me give you a small summary of the message I got from Moore's films. Bowling for Columbine attempts to answer the question about why America is so violent and obsessed with guns. It never really does give a solution to our gun violence problems though, now does it? And it never explored the other side of the issue...how guns protect people against criminals. The only solutions I saw offered are gun bans...and those ideals are unrealistic...as ideals usually are. Guns are already out there on the streets, so the only people you'd be harming is innocent, law-abiding citizens.

Think about it...murder is illegal in pretty much every country on earth. But that hasn't stopped people from killing each other...in every single country. The guns Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris got their hands on? The laws say that they should have never been in possession of those guns, but they did anyway. Gun control does not work.

Certain drugs (marijuana, cocaine, heroin) are illegal. People still use those drugs. The reality is, guns are a deterrent against criminal activity. There is a positive and a negative side to gun ownership, and that positive side is something Michael Moore failed to explore. Read the book “The Bias Against Guns” by John R. Lott or watch Larry Elder's Michael & Me for more information.

Fahrenheit 9/11 was an attempt to out Bush from office. It tried weaving a web together of corporate corruption, government corruption, and foreign back door deals...among other things. I don't disagree with a lot of the stuff in either one of Moore's films, but the bottom line is there is A LOT he got wrong.

Moore already said his films are op-ed pieces...so what's your point?

He may say that in interviews, but his films are not marketed this way. Just take a look at the trailer for Fahnreheit 9/11. Find the part where it says, "An opinion piece by Michael Moore." Now find the part that says, "From the corridors of power to the streets of small town America to the frontlines comes the true story that will make your temperature rise."

Now if that isn't promotion for a journalistic/news-type movie, I don't know what is.

In the Brief History of Lies segment, are you trying to justify slavery?

No, absolutely not. Human enslavement is one of the worst atrocities/human rights violations that can be committed. Anyone with a third grade education (and who isn't a racist) can see this.

What I am refutting is the point that Moore made when he said, "Doing it this way made America the richest country in the world." America was not the only country in the world using slave labor. It was not the first, and unfortunately it won't be the last. America's rise to power was not directly attributable to its economy of slave labor. Our capitalist economy, military, industrial revolution, patent system, and most importantly our great minds who thought of new inventions/innovations are the major reasons why America became a superpower so quickly.

All you're doing is nitpicking, what's your point?

Lots of little things adds up to a big credibility problem. Lots of holes in one's argument adds up to an overall, swiss-cheese looking picture.

And there are some major points Moore deceived everyone on, so I wouldn't say everything is "nitpicking." And since his documentaries are presented as factual, it would be a disservice to fellow moviegoers to not point out these inaccuracies. And in effect, this may force other documentarians to seriously consider triple-checking their facts before releasing their films.

You're using Michael Moore's name to make a name for yourself!

And Michael Moore used the tragedies of Columbine High School and September 11, 2001 to make a bigger name for himself. The documentary is about Michael Moore...what should I have called it? 6 Degrees from Truth: A "Documentary" Filmmaker doesn't say much.

Your documentary sucks!

Give me $10 million and I'll make a better one...I promise.

What's up with your red nose?

That "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" look that I was sporting is a direct result of hot video lights. If I had the budget, I'd have used HMIs.
